Learners Explore Behind-the-Scenes Careers in the Performing Arts
45 enthusiastic Year 9 learners from Cockshut Hill School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, have taken part in a unique and inspiring visit to the renowned Birmingham Repertory Theatre, also known as The Rep.
Organised by Performing Arts Curriculum Lead, Peter Willett, the trip gave learners a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the dynamic world of performing arts careers, far beyond the spotlight of the stage.
The visit was designed to help learners make informed decisions as they approach their GCSE options, with a focus on exposing them to the wide range of roles in the creative industry. From acting and directing to lighting design, costume, stage management, and sound engineering, learners were able to explore the many pathways open to them in this vibrant sector.
Throughout the day, Cockshut Hill learners impressed staff at The Rep with their excellent behaviour, thoughtful questions, and genuine interest in the industry. Their professionalism and enthusiasm made them outstanding ambassadors for the school.
The visit forms part of Cockshut Hill School’s wider commitment to real-world learning experiences that broaden horizons and empower young people to shape their own futures.
Jason Bridges, Principal at Cockshut Hill said:
“It’s vital that learners understand the full range of careers that exist in the performing arts, beyond what they see on stage. This trip gave them a real taste of how their passions and talents could translate into exciting futures in the industry.”
