Learners Shine in Kevin Turner Cup Final Battle

Resilience and Heart on Full Display in Narrow 2–1 Defeat

The Year 9 football team from Cockshut Hill School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, put in a courageous and spirited performance in the Kevin Turner Cup Final this month, narrowly missing out on the trophy after a hard-fought 2–1 loss to Holy Trinity School.

In a match played with passion and pride, the Cockshut Hill squad showed remarkable resilience, particularly in the final 25 minutes of the game. Despite the physical demands of a competitive final, the boys left everything on the pitch, chasing down every ball, making crucial tackles, and pushing for an equaliser right until the final whistle.

A moment of drama came late in the game when star striker Zaion almost levelled the score with a stunning free kick that struck the crossbar, nearly sending the contest to penalties. It was a match that truly could have gone either way.

Special mentions go to:

Blake, for his commanding performance at centre back
Dashel, for tireless work in midfield
Shae, for consistent energy and threat throughout the season
Zaion, for his goal and attacking presence

The team was also honoured by the presence of Kevin Turner himself, after whom the cup is named. His attendance made the occasion even more meaningful for players and staff alike.

Jason Bridges, Principal at Cockshut Hill said:

“While the result didn’t go our way, what our Year 9s demonstrated was so much more important: resilience, sportsmanship, teamwork, and heart. We couldn’t be prouder of them. They represented Cockshut Hill with distinction and passion, both on and off the pitch.”
